The Definition of a Render Farm

The term render farm is composed of the words "rendering" and "farm". In 3D visualization, a render farm of external hardware may be needed as a supportive, external resource to load files for rendering, independent of the actual workstations. The goal is to detach the computational process of rendering (i.e., a three-dimensional scene is brought into a fixed format as a final result) from the workstation. This way, the workstation can continue to be used, and the more powerful, external hardware can shorten rendering time and render multiple images simultaneously.
